This song titled, “The Longer The Waiting (The Sweeter The Kiss),” often runs through my head. Ok, it actually gets stuck in my head on repeat. I have to admit that I haven’t memorized the words to the verses even though I’ve heard the song plenty of times, but I cannot shake this line of the song. In fact, Josh Turner could have just hummed a bunch of nonsense for the rest of the song and I think it still would have had the same effect on me. His deep voice has a way of penetrating you, forcing you to listen not just to the words, but to the message of those words.
Well, the message of this song is clear to me. The wait is important. The wait makes the prize that much better. So true about most everything in life. In fact, quite ironically, while I was writing this post my computer froze on me and I had to wait for it to reboot (hope this read is worth the wait;-)
Living in a world of instant gratification, we’ve forgotten the importance of the wait. The wait shapes us, molds us, prepares us for the prize, making the prize all that much sweeter.
We often take for granted the things we obtain, achieve, and have if there isn’t a wait required first.
Don’t overlook the wait. Don’t rush the wait. Enjoy the wait, because the wait is worth it.
PS – “The Longer The Waiting (The Sweeter The Kiss)” was recorded by Josh Turner and written by Pat McLaughlin and Roger Cook. Check it out on Josh’s album, Everything Is Fine. My favorites on this album are, “Another Try,” “So Not My Baby,” “Firecracker,” and “One Woman Man.” But…I have to admit that one of my all-time favorite Josh Turner songs is from his Haywire album and is called, “Eye Candy.” There’s just something super catchy about that song!

I’ve been getting this on Pandora a lot and now that it’s been so long since the release I thought it was a song that was from somewhere else at first (like a cover) but it’s not. I keep humming it ☺️
