When we compare ourselves to others we seem to focus on what we don’t have – the areas in which we fall short. What we forget is that we aren’t on the same playing field as anyone else. Each person is on his or her own individual journey. Other people are surely part of your journey in different ways, but each person lives out his or her own journey with different circumstances and from different perspectives.
Feelings of lacking begin to dissipate when we focus instead on what we do have: the relationships, friendships, even material things we’ve been blessed with.
Don’t let comparison steal your joy.
Social Media sometimes turns us into comparison monsters because most everyone is posting about all of the things that are great (or might seem great in a snapshot of their life or within a two sentence blurb ). You mostly see or hear about the best moments, the highs of someone’s life on social media, but there are always lows that accompany those highs. Fight the temptation to compare yourself to what you perceive to be true based on that two sentence blurb or that glamorous photo.
You aren’t walking in the other person’s shoes. You don’t know their FULL story, so don’t compare yourself to the piece of it that you do see.
