There’s nothing quite like the present moment. No matter how hard you try, you can’t live in the past and you can’t live in the future. You might mentally try to go there, but that still doesn’t change the fact that you can’t physically be anywhere but in the present moment.
The human attempt to be elsewhere actually makes you miss out on EVERYTHING. You read that right, everything. Trying to live in the past or holding on to ‘the way things used to be’ does nothing but squelch your ability to be fully in the present moment. It hinders you and holds you back from all that is at your fingertips.
It’s common to try and plan for the future (and wise to a certain extent), but in all reality it’s really easy to slip into the mindset of, “someday when I do this, or accomplish this, or have this much money… THEN I’ll do this, that, or the other.” That mindset always keeps us living outside of the present moment, either in fear of or in expectation of what the future might hold. But that’s just it, there are no guarantees and no way of knowing what the future holds, so you best get to living in the ‘right now’.
Think about it, if it’s not possible to live in the past or the future, and the attempt to do so robs you of embracing fully the present moment, what do you have left? Nothing. Essentially you’ve robbed yourself of the present moment, the only thing we are able to live out.
The present moment is so neglected, and so crucial all at the same time. Start trying to live in the present moment more and more each day. God has you where He wants you, to shape you and mold you, and shower graces upon you, and bring you through the lessons you need to learn on your journey. If you never fully embrace the present moment, then you’re never really living fully.
Be in it. Just enjoy the moment right where you are and ask God how He wants to use you in the present moment. It’s ok to let go of your past and to not know your future. Let go. Live in the moment, it’s the only way to live fully.
